THE CANCER OF TAXES

Taxation is a malignancy. Why?

First of all, taxes are almost always collected as a percentage. Thus as the economy improves and inflationary cycles move upward, whether slowly or rapidly, increased revenues for the governments collecting taxes results. In spite of this it seems that governments constantly feel a need to raise the percentage of bread they steal from their citizens. That is particularly galling when the economy reverses or the cycles move downward for at such times, when the government nevertheless receives its percentage of the take, perversely, it whines and grabs yet more instead of tightening its belt like the citizens have to do - and that always at a time the citizens can least afford even more.

Secondly, the actual percentage of taxes has constantly risen due to bracket creep. Most citizens of the United States seem oblivious to the intensification of the malignancy this phenomenon brings about. Due to the corruption of the graduated income tax, Americans have constantly been thrust into paying a higher percentage of taxes simply due to the fact that inflation has pushed them into it - and that mainly as a result of governmental excesses and overspending causing most of the inflation to begin with.

Lastly, the cancer of taxes is indicative of a calamity even more insidious in the end: socialism and uncontrolled governmental growth coerced upon what was once a free society. The nation was founded by those who favored individual responsibility and the need and right of people to care for themselves, free of governmental control and "legalized" theft of the fruits of their labors. Today no Founding Father would possibly recognize the nation for which they struggled, risked, and sometimes gave their lives.

If the state takes 40% of our earnings, then 40% of our freedom is absolutely lost by definition, to say nothing of what more of it is lost due to excessive regulation and control of uncontrolled government. And that is a cancer no matter whose definition you use.

It is not an encouraging situation, for the rising generations have been brainwashed too long by the socialistic environment and thinking into which they are bred, born, and raised. Since there is so little understanding concerning the ironclad principles upon which freedom truly rests, expecting today's society to become enlightened and fight the awful battle required to reverse the liberty-destroying trend is practically hopeless. Like an untreated tumor, the eventual destruction of what freedom yet remains is inevitable sans major revolution. It is a sad prospect for the ever-shrinking minority who understand and cherish the truths upon which freedom is unerringly founded and without which there can be no nation of free men.
